Ok, looks like I've made a minor fool out of myself (didn't take long). I
got the GD graphics library (http://www.boutell.com/gd/) mixed up with the
GD module (http://search.cpan.org/search?dist=GD)

A description of the latter can be found at
<http://search.cpan.org/doc/LDS/GD-1.38/README>, Detlef.

Also, an addendum to my question: MacPerl 5.2 came with some form of the GD
module pre-compiled, but it could apparently only create GIFs, not PNGs
(tell me if I'm wrong). Now, with MacPerl 5.6.1, there is no pre-compiled GD
(again, tell me if I'm wrong). So I assume I'd need to compile both the GD
library and the GD module? Sorry for being so vague, but as you can probably
tell, I've gotten myself in quite a bit over my head.

Thanks,
