Greetings;

I've been trying to find a way to get around using MSN Messenger
(absolutely required daily by my 12 year old) and, frustrated with
the state of the various Jabber offerings that I could try to kludge
together (Java apps that require Java 2, Mac apps that seem to have
been abandoned in mid development, web-based applets that crash my
browsers) I'm looking at two possible starting points; Jarl[1], a
Perl/Tk application and the Net::Jabber module[2], both developed by
Ryan Eatmon. I'd like to use one of these to build a simple chat
client that runs on macos 8.1 and MacPerl and speaks to MSN Messenger.

Does anyone have any experience with Jabber and MacPerl? I'm enough
of a newbie to not fear the massive undertaking that this seems to
require, but have enough sense to know that I'd better check with my
betters first ;->
Any advice is welcome.

tia
