If you happen to have DAVE from Thursby Software(*), the DAVE application can browse local volumes, view long filenames and copy files. You don't even have to be attached to a Windows network to use this functionality (DAVE's normal function). From the File menu, choose the Browse submenu, then choose Local Computer (or Cmd-K). I'm not certain what other programs let you do that, but there are probably some. Photoshop 7 has a Browser that will let you browse such a volume but I don't think it does copying. Retrospect will use long filenames, but it seems like a long way round to 'backup' the CD then 'restore' to your HD. Why can't you copy the files with the Finder? It won't view the files _properly_ but it should view (and copy) them after a fashion. The names get munged so they end with a # and the file id at the end. Of course, if the Finder can't even see these files, maybe DAVE can't either... -Randy (*) I work for Thursby. ############################################################## # Thursby Software Systems, Inc. # # # # Randy Boring Network Engineer # # 5840 W.
