New to the list...

Been trying to resolve some problems I am hitting when installing Perl 5.6.x on two
different macs (one is a g3/500 powerbook with OS9.2.2, the second a beige g3 with an
upgrade g4/500 running 8.6 - a busy server).

In both cases, I started with a fresh install of 5.6.x. Once completed, I've tried
running the CPAN shell (giving it the 'no' answer for automatic config), and then
issue: 'install Bundle::CPAN'. On both machines the install progresses fine until
the MD5 2.20 package is installed.
a. On the g3/500, perl dies at the end of the make procedure just before installing
the package
b. On the g4/500, perl freezes and takes down the whole server.

My question:
1. Has anyone seen this?
2. Is there a way to skip the MD5 install and still issue the 'install Bundle::CPAN'
command (to update what's needed)
3. Am I better off just skipping the use of this Bundle all together

Thanks for any input.

Yonatan.
