I appreciate the quick reply and all the effort you have put into maintaining and improving Shuck! I was able to figure out how to do what I was trying to do with Sound.pm by referring to "Scream.t". The program is a simple but effective metronome. If anyone is interested in it let me know.

When selecting the "Sound Manager" menu item from the "Macintosh Toolbox Modules" submenu under Shuck's "Go" menu I get a dialog box with the message "Can't open that file because a 'Directory or File not found' error has occurred". I used the nifty web installer to install MacPerl 5.6.1r2. Shuck is Version 1.7.0. I'm runnning OS 9.2.2 on a 700 MHz iMac.

Is this file available somewhere?

David,

you have just found a bug (it is a typo) in "MacPerl.podhelp". This file is part of the sources and is used as an input file for the BuildHelpIndex script that builds Shuck's and MacPerl's 'MacPerl Help' index file.

The file you are looking for is 'Sound.pm', but it is referenced as 'Sounds.pm', hence the error message. Unfortunately, Sound.pm (and Sound.xs) (i.e. the Sound Manager) are not documented yet. So, the best advice I can give, look at Sound.xs, which is the Perl interface to the Sound Manager, and Inside Macintosh, the Sound Manager Chapter (e.g. Old IM Vol. VI).

Regards,
Thomas
