I was expecting any old version, just that my libtool didn't work with
the default selection of "/usr/bin/gcc-4.0" since it couldn't figure
out the call mode or something.
Exact error was:
/bin/sh ./libtool /usr/bin/gcc-4.0 -O2 -Wmissing-prototypes -Wunused
-Wimplicit -Wreturn-type -Wparentheses -c nameslist.c
libtool: warning: cannot infer operation mode from `/usr/bin/gcc-4.0'
libtool: you must specify a MODE
Try `libtool --help' for more information.
But you are right in that it should have said "default" (?), instead of
"gcc" as the argument to configure.compiler...
