Hello,
seeing that there has been no progress on the octave port for the last
couple of months, even though many users have encountered problems
with it, I think the Portfile could be advantageously upgraded with
the one proposed on Ticket #13686 (http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/ticket/13686
).
I am also ready to volunteer as maintainer for the octave port, if
that may be useful and improve the frequency of updates and fixes.
