To solve the opposite problem -- if you change the source file, 'make' should remake it. See: http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/ autoconf.html#Installation-Directory-Variables

Right, thanks for explaining the issue. Probably easier when also using automake.

If re-running configure should also cause any files to be regenerated, then another 'make' dependency is probably in order.

Yeah, since it was just three seds the easiest was to just regenerate them always.
