You know, I was never comfortable with this default location. It perpetuates the misperception that MacPorts installs into /opt when in fact it installs into /opt/local. But making the default location for non-root activities ~/.macports/opt/local doesn't make sense either, does it? Sigh. :-/



Why not just ~/.macports? That would seem to match other software, like ssh and subversion.
