Really? I have 10.5 running on a similar machine.

Admittedly, the upgrade didn't go smoothly for me, but it wasn't too difficult to get working.

I'm under the impression that the Leopard installer just bails on older machines. Maybe not though, I don't have any firsthand experience with it.
