2.9 is not a stable release. From the wxWidgets website:

Current Stable Release: 2.8.10
Development Snapshot: 2.9.0

Are all the odd-numbered GNOME releases also stable? They are released.
So are alpha and beta versions of a lot of software. So are nightly
builds, for that matter.
