Sure, and I'm not recommending using an older version; naturally I recommend using the current version, to which the subversion port should be updated when it's available. This discussion was only for the benefit of users who have already demonstrated a desire to reject recommendations (sharing a working copy). Also, this is not the first time this issue has come up; every other major version upgrade for subversion has had the same issue: working copy formats could change, and subversion will auto-update the working copy to the new format, breaking things for users who share working copies between different versions of subversion.
