HDF5 takes a very conservative approach and checks compiled with / running with version numbers at launch. It's software designed for maintaining huge and potentially expensive / impossible to replace scientific data, so they go with error out and print a message rather than any tiny chance of cross-version issues. These errors can be suppressed and it will run, as mentioned in the original message to the list. This isn't the recommended mode of operation. I'm about to revbump the portfile, which will fix these issues, as the binary package will get recompiled against the new hdf5-18. I try to keep on top if it (the hdf5-18 portfile change happened 48 hours ago or so) but I am still recovering from jet lag... - Eric -- Eric A.
