Eventually I seem to have located the true culprit!
For some reason the project's "Run Settings" had the option
"Use debug version of frameworks (DYLD_IMAGE_SUFFIX=_debug)"
DISABLED!!!
Strange, for some reason this setting can't be set independently for the Debug
and Release build anymore…
But well, at least I can see the full main menu again when I enable the above
option.
