Hi, As far as i am aware, MacPorts does not really work properly as a root owned cron job. See
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/34221 and in particular the discussion starting around comment 61 The work around is to run as a regular user crontab, but setup sudo to allow that user to run port via sudo without a password.
