It's possible (and I hope someday soon the default, so C++11 code works on 
those OSes) to build all of MacPorts with libc++ on 10.7/10.8, in which case 
this code would do the wrong thing.

I think the snippet Jeremy provided in a comment on another issue is more like 
what is needed here: <https://trac.macports.org/ticket/41154#comment:1>
