Note that MacPorts questions already get asked on a web-based forum-like interface, namely Stack Overflow. But it's yet another place that fragments the community. I subscribe to the MacPorts mailing lists. If a question comes in that I know the answer to, I'll answer it. But I don't visit Stack Overflow looking for unanswered questions, so questions asked there will not get a timely answer from me, which would be the same for any hypothetical official MacPorts forum, unless that forum provided a way to receive email copies of all new messages and a way to reply to those by email as well. I have not taken a survey of forum software but I'm not aware of one that works in that way.
