All of this should have been squashed into a single commit, with a better
commit message, prior to merging to master.
We should probably just enable the Squash and Merge button for the repo.
It's unfortunate that it will be the default, since it isn't always
appropriate, but I think having the option will make things easier
overall, even if we have to educate our committers a bit.
