Lots of parts of MacPorts are compiled C code instead of Tcl. If the overhead 
of the interpreted Tcl language is a problem for portindex, it could be 
rewritten in C. I'm not convinced that's the case; I assume its speed would be 
limited by the speed of disk accesses.
