Putting the compressed patchfile name into patchfiles, and the URL where it can be downloaded in patch_sites, should work, except that MacPorts base does not support xz-compressed patchfiles yet (see https://trac.macports.org/ticket/52445). It does support bz2- and gz-compressed patchfiles though, if they offer those.
