I haven’t tried it, but Google brought me to a StackExchange post saying you 
can use RCDefaultApp, or use 
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister
