Thank you for the fix, and for letting us know. I'll revert the changes
on our end and see how we go.

these intermittent 503 errors should already be fixed since a few hours
after you CC:'d us on Saturday.
Reason for the problems was that the webserver was occasionally running
out of threads. And it did so, because a few rather large subnets from
China were downloading the same CentOS-.isos over and over again (*) -
with >11000 connections, spread over >1000 IPs, at something like 3
KB/s. This did not even cause any relevant load on the server, the
webserver simply hit the configured limits for how many connections it
may handle in parallel, hence throwing the intermittent 503 errors.
