Hello!

I submitted a Pull Request to update LMDB to 1.0.0 a while ago:

https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/33380

I mentioned as much to Howard Chu (lead dev behind LMDB, OpenLDAP,
etc.) and he mentioned that it might be worth keeping .9 around to
facilitate database migrations.

However, personally I don't actually use LMDB in any sort of embedded
fashion which would require a migration per se?

Nonetheless, I observed that LMDB has a lot of installations; or at
least, more reported via mpstats sorts than any other MacPort where I
added myself as a maintainer and presumably others might have more
concerns? Given the potential impact, I don't want to inadvertently
step on anyone's toes.

I thought, ever so briefly: "oh, maybe I'll just create lmdb-devel and
have that as 1.0.0" though in practice, that doesn't really seem as if
it functions the way I would imagine might be helpful for migrating
anything.

Even if I were to amend my locally tested Portfile with a "conflicts"
so that lmdb and lmdb-devel can't be installed simultaneously; that
may actually be OK for LMDB, but maybe less useful for anyone
contending with needing to migrate anything between versions!

So, while I may be making a mountain out of a molehill? Ryan suggested
that rather than opening a Trac ticket for such brainstorming as I had
done previously, it would have been wiser to use the macports-dev
mailing list and I finally find myself with some time to do so.

Perspective is welcome!

Thank you!
