I've moved past esound by disabling autoconf in the port file. I'm not
stuck on libmng, which doesn't have the option to disable autoconf.
I've attached the debug output from a fresh install attempt of libmng.

Hi,
Could you please send us the debug output:
sudo port -d install esound
It may also help to use this command prior to install esound:
sudo port clean --all esound
