I tried the following solution with no joy:

I believe this was fixed by nox in r29425 on 2007-09-23. Please
"sudo port selfupdate" to get this change, and try again.

$ sudo port selfupdate

The MacPorts installation is not outdated and so was not updated
selfupdate done!
