This should not be a problem with MacPorts trunk which passes the
correct value for MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET to every port.
For MacPort 1.6.0 as released, try adding this to the port:

build.env-append MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.3
