Sounds like maybe the work dir was cleaned, though cd'ing to multiple
directories should have resulted in an error...
Doesn't look like it; looks like it cd's to the first item provided.
If just 'port work expat' returns nothing at all, then it was cleaned,
I think it must have been.
though I thought autoclean only kicked in when things were successful.
