Well, this is anecdotal evidence at best, but after forcing activation of mesa @7.2_5+hw_render on 10.4.11 ppc, GL based GTK applications that I have tried so far (using the gtkglgraph widget, for instance) seem to build and run properly.
You can also deactivate the xorg-proto port in order to activate the mesa port : xorg-proto is only a build dependency, so I think it should work until Jeremy can fix this issue.
