decided to give up on fvwm2 for now and so tried to install gnustep. Except, after 3 hours of it installing it failed with the following error (below). Would you know if there's anything i can do to get it to build successfully?

Configuring gnustep-base

configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in /opt/ local/share/GNUstep/Makefiles .//opt/local/share/GNUstep/Makefiles

Error: Target org.macports.configure returned: configure failure: shell command " cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/ _opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_gnust ep_gnustep-base/work/gnustep-base-1.18.0" && ./configure --prefix=/ opt/local CC=gcc-mp-4.2 GNUSTEP_MAKEFILES=/opt/local/share/GNUstep/ Makefiles --enable-libffi --with-ffi-include=/opt/local/include/ gcc42 --with-ffi-library=/opt/local/lib/gcc42 " returned error 1

Command output: configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in /opt/local/share/GNUstep/Makefiles .//opt/local/share/ GNUstep/Makefiles

I wanted to confirm that I get this error too, on Mac OS X 10.5.6 Intel with Xcode 3.1.2 and MacPorts 1.7.0.

I see this error reported previously in this ticket:

http://trac.macports.org/ticket/13466

which is closed as a duplicate of this ticket:

http://trac.macports.org/ticket/13693

which was allegedly fixed 15 months ago. Clearly not, and/or the problem has resurfaced.

Unfortunately gnustep-base has no maintainer so someone with an interest in this problem will need to step up and figure out how to solve it.
