Actually xorg-libxcb is already installed and active on my system.
Is that a known problem or should I open a ticket?
I don't see this problem here. Are MacPorts base and your port definitions up
to date?

sudo port selfupdate

Yes I did a selfupdate and got the new macport release 1.9.2. So your py26-wxpython does work with the +carbon variant.
Is it usual, that

sudo port install py26-wxpython +carbon

computes dependencies, even though the package is already installed?
