When I ran : port search 'window manager' | grep gnome I got: metacity @2.30.3 (gnome, x11-wm) while I thought Gnome is a Window Manager in itself. Then I Googled and found http://xwinman.org/gnome.php saying it is not and that metacity is used by Gnome. Learning new things every day here! @ Jeremey I see. Well if I can use another in parallel just tot see how it is that would be great. I already have Gnome Desktop installed via MacPorts as I am already familiar with it. Here are the current ports: port installed | grep gnome gnome-common @2.26.0_0 gnome-common @2.28.0_0 (active) gnome-desktop @2.26.3_0 gnome-desktop @2.30.2_0 gnome-desktop @2.30.2_1 (active) gnome-doc-utils @0.16.1_1 gnome-doc-utils @0.18.1_1 gnome-doc-utils @0.20.1_0 gnome-doc-utils @0.20.2_0 gnome-doc-utils @0.20.3_0 (active) gnome-icon-theme @2.26.0_0 gnome-icon-theme @2.30.3_0 (active) gnome-keyring @2.26.3_0 gnome-keyring @2.30.3_0 gnome-keyring @2.30.3_1 (active) gnome-mime-data @2.18.0_3 (active) gnome-themes @2.26.3.1_0 gnome-themes @2.30.2_1 (active) gnome-vfs @2.24.2_0 gnome-vfs @2.24.3_0 gnome-vfs @2.24.3_1 gnome-vfs @2.24.4_0 (active) libgnome @2.26.0_0 libgnome @2.26.0_1 libgnome @2.30.0_0 (active) libgnome-keyring @2.30.1_1 (active) libgnomecanvas @2.26.0_1 libgnomecanvas @2.30.1_0 libgnomecanvas @2.30.2_0 (active) libgnomecups @0.2.3_1 (active) libgnomeprint @2.18.6_0 libgnomeprint @2.18.7_0 libgnomeprint @2.18.8_0 (active) libgnomeprintui @2.18.4_1 libgnomeprintui @2.18.4_2 libgnomeprintui @2.18.5_0 libgnomeprintui @2.18.6_0 (active) libgnomeui @2.24.2_0 libgnomeui @2.24.2_1 libgnomeui @2.24.3_0 libgnomeui @2.24.3_1 libgnomeui @2.24.4_0 (active) py25-gnome @2.26.1_1 py25-gnome @2.28.1_0 (active) py26-gnome @2.28.1_1 (active) But I cannot get it started as an alternative Window Manager. I guess as it is not really as I found out earlier. I guess I need to install metacity? Will go through https://trac.macports.org/wiki/GNOME as soon as I have some more time.. Thanks again!!
