There is indeed a "User 503" so I don't know what that's all about. More
serious is the charset problem. This is a clean build on a clean install of
MacPorts v. 2.0.3 onto Snow Leopard.
The log looks the same as the last report, but the conditions are (slightly)
different. Before, there was indeed a "macports" user, visible only via
"dscl". This time, I made my own first-class MacPorts user, short name
"macports", as user ID 503. It's the only UID 503 on the system.
But again, the actual failure appears to be something different.
