THAT WAS EXACTLY THE POINT.
tbz2 might be NOW the default setting, but it wasn't in my macports.conf, very
probably because it's a quite old one…
It looks like the selfupdate didn't highlight enough that this setting should
be changed by the user!
Installation is now, of course, SO MUCH FASTER!!!
What a relief!
