So you have a perl manager and a ruby manager installed and battling it out with each other, but choose to blame MacPorts. In any case I'm not sure you even need MacPorts since you've taken it on yourself to maintain your own perl and ruby installs anyway. Do you understand that things like perlbrew and rvm are specifically designed to modify your environment in exactly the way you are seeing? That it is their function?
