I removed macports and all associated directories and did a cline install and 
run “sudo port install postfix +tsl+sasl” and it appears the install went ok 
this time. I could see for the first time 
--->  Installing postfix @2.11.0_0+sasl+tls
--->  Activating postfix @2.11.0_0+sasl+tls
