The OSX version should not matter, root works fine on 10.6 through to 10.9.

More I suspect your second machine has got into a bit of a mess, as you have two builds installed, one with python and one without. Only one though can be 'active' at once, and whilst that claims to be the one with python, it seems not. So try removing the one without

> sudo port uninstall root5 @5.34.18_0+cocoa+gcc48+graphviz+gsl+minuit2+opengl+roofit+soversion+ssl+tmva+xml

then verify you only have one installed and active

> port installed root5

just to be sure...

> sudo port activate root5

if that does not work, well then yes, try and completely uninstall root5 and try a fresh rebuild.
