There is a somewhat blunt solution: remove the plugins in 
${prefix}/share/qt4/plugins/bearer, for instance by compressing them.
This will probably disable WiFi (wlan) scanning and management via Qt 
applications, but in my case that's a perfectly acceptable trade-off.
