It seems to me that the problem is that the directory

/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_textproc_pandoc/pandoc/work/pandoc-3.6.2

does not exist. In fact,

ls -l /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_textproc_pandoc/pandoc/work/

total 0
drwxr-xr-x  50 macports  wheel  1600 Jan 12 23:25 jgm-pandoc-fd49684

If this still happens after you "sudo port clean pandoc" and "sudo port selfupdate", please file a ticket in the issue tracker.

In fact it was already filed and fixed:

so it should go away after "sudo port selfupdate".
