A MacPorts Trac ticket amounts to little more than hopes and prayers.  The PR 
from Dave is actual movement.  I don't think a ticket would help at this point.

If you have an account on GitHub, you can subscribe to activity on the PR to be 
notified of any progress.  GitHub will send mail for every update on the PR.

It might really help Dave (and the reviewers) if you could test this patch and 
report any problems on the PR.  If it works, you can merrily continue using 
this WIP build of gcc while the PR is in review.
