Hi David, I always thought the official tutorial on the Ruby site is pretty good:
http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/documentation/quickstart/ It is also normal practice to keep non-standard ruby functionality out of core and distribute is as a gem. That should not discourage you from using MacRuby or make you doubt that you can use it for Mac development now or in the future.
