Yes, you keep building macruby as you did before (outside of rvm), and as long as you have installed macruby-nightly before hand, it should all work. The thing is, when you install a specific version of macruby (or the nightly build) using rvm, it is using the macruby install package, which MUST install to /Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.11 or whatever the version happens to be. But both macruby-nightly and macruby-head will have the same version number, so they get installed to the exact same place (they overwrite each other).
