The only avenue I see in my particular case is that my app (DomainBrain) stores data for the user - I wonder if a (hypothetical!) bug in the app caused a customer to lose records for a large number of domains, would that open me up to being sued. Does anyone think an LLC is more advisable when developing certain types of software - such as apps that store data, as opposed to tools that perform a task but don't store any critical info?
