Asking the right questions he admitted to me that he just has not time for this any more. Merging foreign code is pretty time intensive, and since it's still "his" project he probably feels responsible for not breaking it by improvements. I think we all know this situation :) So, maybe it's best if someone new is found that wants to take responsibility for the framework, someone who has the time to manage it.
