And, at least in my case, I don't buy a new top-of-the-line computer every year, but do have to pay for the Select Membership every year. Hence, that's about $500 each year for three years ($1500), but only one purchase with the hardware discount (~$700 in savings). I was actually just dreading the $500 renewal I have coming up because I knew I wasn't going to buy a new computer this year. This is much better.
