Can you move the warning up earlier, in your installer put up a message "WARNING YOU HAVE AN OUT OF DATE VERSION OF FOOBAR INSTALLED, WHICH CRASHES 64-BIT PROGRAMS, INCLUDING MYSTUFF"?
