That would be killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

That's just an egg.

Killing the Mac would be madness as it is the roots of the entire Apple product 
tree and allows Apple to remain masters of their universe.  No way ever in hell 
would they add a dependency to a foreign OS for dev tools.  That would be 
suicide.

Then there's the huge investment in the pro market.  Logic, Final Cut Pro, 
etc.... Killing the mac would render that entire investment pointless.   Think 
a bit about how much Apple has invested in side businesses that depend on the 
Mac for dev tools, portals, etc.  The pro audio market alone is pretty 
significant.

My guess is they've decided to renovate the downloads area and took it down for 
a bit while they're doing it.
