I've been thinking about doing this for a little while, and I'm not convinced
you'd end up with something that's better than the combination of fantastic
tools we already have (but we wouldn't be developers if we let that stop us!).

Currently, I use:

PotionStore: http://www.potionfactory.com/potionstore - This handles my sales
including a custom licensekey.rb for generating my serials.

Shimmer: http://shimmerapp.com/ - This handles my Sparkle updates and update
distribution.

Symphony CMS: http://symphony-cms.com/ - I use Symphony for my main promotional
site - it's great for pulling data from other systems and redisplaying it on
your own site, which you can see on my release notes page for Hyperspaces:
http://thecocoabots.com/hyperspaces/release-notes/. It's not a beginner's tool
though - XML/XSL are fantastic, but there's a bit of a learning curve.

Oh, and Tender App for my ticketed support.

I've seen people using a PayPal extension with Symphony (PayPal Payments), and
I created an extension a little while back for generating DSA signatures for
uploaded files (Signed File Upload Field), so you could potentially build a
very functional mac software site using Symphony.

My guess is that if you're asking whether you should be rolling your own,
you've already started and you're looking for validation. So here it is - go
on, do it :) Chances are you'll come up with something new and unique.

I'm happy to share more details of my setup, disparate as it is - and I'm keen
to hear what other people have setup.

thanks,

Tony
