Not sure. Keep in mind, if the software stays the same, just gets sold differently, why would users complain? An app store generally benefits users. Only developers stand to lose. Prices for the same (software) product aren't that competitive anyway. I think that's what they'd do. It's a great way to get on a new user's Mac, because it comes with the Mac and is prominent. And considering Apple has its own stores, most people don't see anything except what's in those stores or on their Mac. The "base-level user" (as opposed to "power user", "developer" etc.) doesn't go in a store and buy software to put on their Mac. They may get an occasional gift, from a more "advanced" user, who installs it, but that's it.
