During a presentation at WWDC a few years ago, the Apple executive presenting 
the session commented that Apple didn't have a problem with developers using 
Apple's icons in third party apps where appropriate.  By appropriate, he 
clarified that if you use the home directory icon from the Finder, it should 
represent the home directory.  Basically, use them in the way Apple uses them 
and don't co-opt them for something else (and confuse the user in doing so).

Its by no means written legal permission, so YMMV.
