I'm still making up my mind about the future of Mac, but one way or another,
the extremely low level of attention to Mac here at WWDC is sending the wrong
message. WWDC traditionally showcases the newest technologies; the ones that
Apple is most excited about. However, they're so very excited about iOS, that
in their excitement they probably don't even realize how bad it looks for Mac.

There are Mac developers here who's been coming for a decade or more, and
they're walking around scratching their heads looking worried.

While I'm not convinced the Mac is doomed, I believe that the "you'll always
need a desktop for things like content creation" argument falls flat. The
announcement of iMovie on the iPad underscores this point. In 2010, the iPad
isn't running Illustrator, FCP or XCode, but honestly it's just a matter of
time. All it takes is a few years for processing speed and storage capacity to
increase to the level of the Mac. Need more screen space? Meet the iPad
Cinema in 2012. Eventually, there'll be no technical reason why you'll still
need a Mac and it will come down to which option has the best hardware/software
experience (e.g. the choice now between Mac/Windows or laptop/desktop.)
